June 25th, 5pm, 25 East Main Street (in front of Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s campaign office). Protest in support of the Post Office, which, to be brief, is being forced into insolvency by measures designed to hurt its workers and contribute momentum to the move to privatize it. The Postal Service is the second largest employer in the US and without the undue burdens imposed by malicious legislation- most prominent the 2006 law that requires the USPS fully fund its pension program75 years in advance- would be able to pay for itself with no or minimal government subsidies.
This protest is a local action in solidarity with the National Call to Action put forth by the ANSWER Coalition and Community and Postal Workers United. Some members from these organizations will be participating in a hunger strike. Actions will take place across the country from June 25- June 28th.
